WW2 Original Soviet Russian Silver ORDER of GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR 2nd cl.#1905, Rare Type 1 - WW2 Original Soviet Russian Silver ORDER of GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR 2nd cl.#1905, Rare Type 1 Second Class. Type 1. Order badge on suspension mount. Variant 1 Construction: The badge consists of three principal components: Primary element — a five-pointed enamel star with a circular central medallion bearing the inscription ”Patriotic War”. This part is made of silver. Second element — an underlying five-pointed radiant (strahl) star with crossed saber and rifle. Unlike the First Class, this component is also made of silver. Third element — the gold hammer and sickle applied to the central medallion of the enamel star. A fourth component may be considered the suspension mount with threaded post and screw nut for fastening. Reverse characteristics On the reverse, the silver radiant star has a circular aperture measuring 16.5 mm in diameter. Through this opening, the inner portion of the enamel star is visible. Within the aperture, on the silver enamel star, are two rivets securing the hammer and sickle. There is no mint mark on the reverse of the badge. The serial number is engraved by hand with a burin on the reverse of the radiant star. The suspension mount is fitted with a round screwback nut 25 mm in diameter bearing the hallmark MONETNYJ DVOR in raised letters arranged in two lines. Orders of the Patriotic War, Second Class, were manufactured at the Krasnokamsk Mint (KMD) and the Moscow Mint (MMD). KMD, Variant 1 Orders of this variant were produced at the Krasnokamsk Mint (KMD) for a short period. Suspension mount dimensions: approximately 32 mm wide and 18 mm high. Threaded post made of silver. No connecting link between the order and the suspension mount. A wire is soldered to the suspension mount; it passes through the loop of the badge and is then bent toward the reverse. On the reverse, a vertical pin is soldered to the radiant star for additional attachment to clothing (at the 12 o’clock position). The serial number is located at approximately the 7 o’clock position and engraved diagonally from top to bottom. Detailed condition reports are not included in this catalog.
