The second type of the medal originated as a result of the Decree of 19 June 1943. After this decree came into force, all medals were to be worn on five-sided suspension mounts. Ribbon colors were also officially established for all pre-war medals. Many recipients of the medal ”XX Years of the RKKA” replaced the earlier rectangular mount with the new five-sided suspension mount, which gave rise to the second type.
