CHARLES BANKS WILSON (1918-2013) RARE 1941 LITHOGRAPH - Charles Banks Wilson (Oklahoma, 1918-2013) War Dance for Little Indians 1941 The lithograph published in an extremely low edition of only 16 prints is signed by Wilson in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left, Hunt number 23. A fine, dark impression. This marks the first appearance of this rare lithograph at auction, according to records on all four major art auction databases, and the major online bidding platforms. Charles Banks Wilson personally bore witness to the Native American culture and traditions he portrayed in his art. This authenticity, and the rarity of these early low edition prints, makes them very desirable, particularly in the condition found here. Wilson's comments on this image in Hunt reads: 'Indians are very concerned with the importance of teaching their children the songs and dances. I did a number of prints that show this. Here, no doubt, the drummers play a slower beat for the young Indians.' Image measures 10 x 12.75 with a framed size of 20.5 x 22.5 inches.
