William Frederick Paskell (1866-1951) Untitled (Harbor Scene) Circa 1930 The placid New England harbor view of a masted ship in port is signed lower left. The protected harbor, larger ship and shake shingle shacks suggest a Gloucester view. Being based in Boston, Paskell painted in Gloucester as well as around Cape Ann and Rockport. Paskell immigrated to Boston with his family in 1872. By age 21, he was exhibiting at the Boston Art Club alongside prominent artists like Childe Hassam and John J. Enneking. Initially, An impressionist, he believed his large landscape paintings were best appreciated from a distance of twenty-five feet or more.
