Kraft (1922-1977) Forest Search 1948-49 Ranking as one of the most noteworthy paintings by Arthur Kraft ever offered at auction, the present work is signed lower left front and further documented by an exhibition label verso. The importance lies not with its exhibition record but in the accomplishment of the work itself. The striking geometry of that wall of flame-like and spire-form trees completes the mysterious hush of the enchanted scene in a fascinating juxtaposition. The exhibition was a juried show sponsored by the Allied Artists of America Inc. held at the prestigious National Academy of Design galleries in New York. The label lists Arthur Kraft's address as 5339 Mission Woods Road, his family home where upon learning he was being drafted into WWII, Arthur told his mother, ''I've go to paint.'' As mother's do, some mothers, she gave him the go ahead and he proceeded to paint a mural on the living room wall before shipping out.
