Charles Cecil Pollock (1902-1988) The Road Home 1939 The stone lithograph from Pollock's social realist period, printed under the auspices of the Michigan WPA, is signed within the stone lower right. Around 1926, Cecil Pollock, older brother of Jackson Pollock, traveled across the country from California to New York specifically to study with Thomas Hart Benton at the Art Students League. Jackson followed in 1930. Getting from California to New York in the 1920s and 30s was no small task. Cecil would later be appointed supervisor of Mural Painting and Graphic Arts Division for the Federal Art Project (WPA) in Detroit. After the war he too gradually shifted from social realism to non-objective abstraction. Image measures 9.75 x 13, sheet is 12 x 16, with a framed size of 19 x 22.25 inches.
