Ernest Hubert Deines (1894-1967) Explorers 1930s The wood engraving published in an edition of 50 prints is posthumously signed by the artist's brother in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left. A fascinating story expanding on the inspiration for this image is pasted verso. Interestingly, it describes the artist's inspiration as stemming from a visit to a Kansas City newspaper by Admiral Byrd just before one of his expeditions to the South Pole.
