A LATE 19TH CENTURY SHIRVAN 'FLOWER' RUG - The dark blue field with an allover design of diagonal flower head bands alternating red and white all within a yellow serrated vine lattice, framed within a polychrome diagonal banded main border and associated ivory border enclosing continuous alternating blue and tangerine 'S' motifs. The lattice style field design is frequently seen throughout the East and Northeast Caucasian region, however enclosing flower heads of this style is unusual, since these flower heads are normally seen in open field compositions. Measures approximately 59 x 40 inches; 4ft.11 inches x 3ft.4in; 150 x 102cm.
