A LATE 19TH CENTURY SHIRVAN PRAYER RUG - The red field with allover cone shaped boteh, below a flattened pointed arch with a star filled arched red rectangular reserve, flower head spandrels, within a saffron leaf and calyx border. The pale saffron border is unusual, whereby ivory would normally be seen as the background colour, This is an intelligent foil since the field design is not compromised by a by a strong contrasting frame, thus creating an overall harmonic composition. Measures approximately 68 x 41 inches; 5ft.6 inches x 3ft.5in; 168 x 104cm.
