A FLAME BIRCH FEDERAL ERA CHEST ATTR NATHAN LOMBARD - The circa 1800 Massachusetts four drawer chest is constructed with an overhanging serpentine top having molded edge above four graduated long drawers. Each drawer is faced with book-matched flame birch veneers, creating a symmetrical, mirrored grain pattern. Each drawer has the original (or early) pressed oval American Eagle brasses. The cabinet is raised on molded bracket feet embellished with matching lightwood inlay panels, another characteristic of the cabinet maker Nathan Lombard of Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Provenance: Sold at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries Mar 2, 2019 for $4000.00 where it was offered with attribution to Nathan Lombard (1777-1847). Measures 35 x 38.5 x 19.5 inches. Condition Very good condition free from damage, repair or wear, the top is very good with very even finish overall and no noticeable stain, fade, uneven color or finish, no discoloration , scratches, dents, discoloration or fade. The front is equally fine with no veneer loss or repair detected, one tiny chip to cockbeading corner top left of bottom drawer, scattered tiny edge nicks and one horizontal split to one foot. no replacements overall, the drawers have been painted white inside. Provenance Provenance: The estate of John Adair Jr. (1942-2025), founder and proprietor of Kurofune Antiques, Tokyo (est. 1978).
