Bidspirit auction | JAPANESE PEONY BASKET ATTR CHIKUYUSAI,
JAPANESE PEONY BASKET ATTR CHIKUYUSAI, ADAIR COLLECTION - The extraordinary example of multiple elaborate and complex weaves, techniques and adornments is woven in a dense, shimmering horizontal twill weave. The body is accented by bold exterior architectural elements encasing it in six substantial braided vertical ribs that serve as structural buttresses, each secured with meticulous knotting. The most unusual feature is the set of three sculptural 'loop' ornaments on the lower body. The exceptionally broad flared rim is finished with a rhythmic rope-twist coil. Accompanying the basket is its original paulownia wood storage box inscribed with the artist's calligraphy and vermilion seal, and its original segmented bamboo liner. Basket measures 9 x 10 x 10 inches. Without proof of exemption, be aware that internet sales tax applies to all Internet transactions and local sales tax may apply to local pick-up transactions.
