A PAIR LATE QING DYNASTY CHINESE SPINDLE BACK ARMCHAIRS - A fine pair of Chinese spindle-back armchairs, in Huanghali type hardwoods featuring a straight crest rail over a backrest with ten slender vertical spindles. The straight, un-protruding armrests with matching five-spindle flanks, the rectangular seats are inset with tightly woven rattan matting in a diagonal diamond-pattern and golden-brown patina. The seats are supported by straight legs of rounded section, joined below the front rail by a recessed, three-panel geometric openwork apron. The underside retains the original layer of protective dark stabilization coating and un-restored mortise-and-tenon joinery throughout. This lot will be sold as two chairs in one lot for one winning bid, rather than the traditional manner of per each. Each measures 34 x 21.5 x 17 inches.
