TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II HIGH HANDLE HANAKAGO, ADAIR ESTATE - The impressive flower arranging basket of double gourd form is woven in a fine horizontal undulation with bands of open hexagonal plaited 'windows encircling the body encased in four prominent braided vertical ribs that flow upward from the base, merging seamlessly into a high, squared-off handle. The handle's horizontal grip features fine geometric ''checkered'' or ''mosaic'' wrapping and the whole rests on a recessed corded foot. The piece possesses a deep, luminous smoked-mahogany patina overall and is accompanied by its original liner and signed paulownia wood storage box. Basket measures 22.25 x 7 x 7 inches.
