A FINE BAMBOO BASKET SIGNED CHIKUUNSAI, ADAIR ESTATE - The statuesque Japanese bamboo basket for flower arranging displays outstanding patina and a striking, distinctively formed handle created by masterful bending and knotting of bamboo. The handsome form is constructed as a robust, slightly flared cylindrical form utilizing dense architectural vertical stays anchored by horizontal bands creating a rhythmic, ribbed effect. The most prominent feature is the unusual arching handle composed of thick twisted bamboo slats bound at the apex with a complex infinity knot created by weaving wet, split bamboo tightly in a complex knot. The bamboo possesses a deep, luminous soot-stained patina displaying tones of rich dark mahogany and amber. Basket measures 18.75 x 10.25 x 10.25 inches.
