A JAPANESE BASKET SIGNED CHIKUYOSAI, ADAIR ESTATE - The tall, slender vessel is constructed with a dense plain-weave body spaced by vertical bamboo stays, each secured with intricate decorative knotting in black bamboo below an open-work band laced in black around the shoulder where the high sweeping handle composed of layered bamboo strips is tied in three distinct 'fingers.' The form sits on a thick, corded plinth foot adding to the overall sense of verticality. The deep, lustrous amber-brown patina is accented by all-over near-black laces and ties.
