Utagawa Yoshimori (1830-1884) The Children's Sugoroku of the Fork in the Road between Good and Evil 1860 Sugoroku was a color woodblock print path-style board game similar to the modern day game of Snakes and Ladders. In 19th century Japan players often learned of new places or historical events while playing. This lesson-based example uses travel as a metaphor for a person's life journey and the consequences of their actions. Players navigate a landscape of virtues and vices, ultimately striving for the 'Goal' at the summit of a Mount Fuji in the upper left.
