MEIJI - EARLY TAISHO BASKET ATTR CHIKKOEN, ADAIR ESTATE - The early 20th century example features a tall, tapered body that transitions into a high shoulder and a wide, flared trumpet rim. The body is constructed using a dense horizontal twill weave punctuated by braided vertical stays like external buttresses, and three decorative encircling bands of open-work ''window'' plaiting at the shoulder, waist, and base. The high arched handle is meticulously wrapped with a braided rope inlay. The bamboo possesses a deep, smoked-mahogany patina and the vessel is raised on an open-work pedestal foot.
