The work is signed again, titled and dated on the canvas verso along with an important gallery label from Galeria Arteconsult, one of the most prominent, historic fine art institutions in Central America. Founded in Panama City in 1979 by the art historian and dealer Carmen Aleman Healy, it has served Latin American, Cuban exile, and Caribbean contemporary artists for nearly five decades. Humberto Calzada was a Cuban-American painter known for architecturally precise, surreal compositions inspired by the colonial and neoclassical buildings of Havana. Born in Cuba and exiled to Miami in 1960, he studied industrial engineering and finance at the University of Miami before turning to painting full-time in 1976. Associated with the influential ''Miami Generation'' of Cuban-American artists, Calzada achieved international recognition for his luminous paintings exploring exile, memory, decay, and reconstruction through idealized architectural space. His work was exhibited widely throughout the Americas and is held in major museum collections including the Lowe Art Museum, Bass Museum, St. Louis Art Museum, and Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Chile.
