The bronze figure of biomorphic, totemic form with outstretched horizontal elements and elongated neck is mounted on a wood plinth with the artist's conjoined letter signature. Clarence Teed was a Kansas City designer-craftsman, sculptor, and furniture maker associated with the postwar American studio craft movement. As a founding member of the Kansas City Woodworker's Guild and president of the Missouri Craftsman Council, Clarence Teed was a central figure in Midwest studio craft design community. Active during the mid-20th century, Teed became known for blurring the boundaries between fine art, sculpture, and functional design with his furniture forms. In that realm, he considered himself a 'designer-craftsman' who created objects that were both functional as well as artistic. He also created objects like the present work which were purely sculptural. Measures 19.5 x 7.5 x 5.75 inches.
