It illustrated a full-page plate in Mokey , a novel written by Jennie Harris Oliver and published in 1935 by the Burton Publishing Company of Kansas City, Missouri, which is where this work was purchased for $75.00 by the current owner's father in 1971. The main character, Mokey Delano, first appears in a series of popular short stories written for national publications like The Delineator and Good Housekeeping. In 1935, the stories were compiled and expanded into the hardcover book. James Montgomery Flagg was a prolific American artist best known for creating the iconic ' I Want YOU for U.S. Army ' Uncle Sam recruitment poster.
