Naif (or naive) style painting was a French tradition defined by its sophisticated, skillful, lighthearted and deliberate approach to making pictures. This work is an outstanding example filled with visual anecdotes and palpable atmosphere. A nighttime glow warms the palette. Three floating street lamps lead they eye to a distant lighted facade; detail abounds. The title is an interesting play on words that reads as Hotel of Departure or The Hotel You Depart , carrying a host of possibilities for the viewer. Michel Delacroix was an academically trained artist who studied traditional painting at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts before developing his own distinct style. His works have been exhibited internationally in Europe, the United States (over 300 exhibitions), and Japan; and are found in public institutions throughout France, including national and municipal collections.
