The rare work by this Carrollton, Missouri artist, first watercolor by Geary to appear at auction, is signed lower right front. Fred Geary was a Kansas City printmaker, muralist, and commercial designer from Carrollton, Missouri educated at the Kansas City Art Institute and in New York under Randall Davey, He was best known for his finely executed wood engravings and woodblock prints depicting Midwestern and Southwestern subjects. This rare watercolor is the first to appear at auction. Working from a studio in Kansas City's Union Station for the Fred Harvey Company, Geary traveled extensively throughout the American West creating murals and promotional imagery tied to the Santa Fe Railway and Harvey House system. His work was exhibited at institutions including the Brooklyn Museum, the Pennsylvania Academy. The Seattle Art Museum, the Brooklyn Museum and other institutions have collected his work.
