The work is signed lower left front by the Iowa and Colorado artist best known for her portraits of children on the Crow Indian Reservation. Here, the girl's regalia includes elaborate beadwork and a dress ornamented with numerous elk canine teeth, a traditional marker of prestige in Crow culture.
