Thomas Hart Benton (1889-1975) County Politics The lithograph published by Associated American Artists in an edition of 250 prints is signed by Benton in pencil below the image lower right and listed as Fath catalog number 89. Benton comments on this image in Fath as follows: 'County Politics' shows what we used to call 'The Court House gang' arguying[sic] out its allegencies, favors, rewards and punishments. Every rural Court House had one and probably still does. Those who run for public office, however high, must take these gangs into account. They know where the votes are and how to round them up. Image measures 14 x 16.75, sheet is 18.5 x 22, and frame is 21 x 23.5 inches.
