Benton Spruance was an influential American printmaker and pioneer of modern color lithography. After studying architecture at the University of Pennsylvania, he attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and later studied in Paris at the Academie Montparnasse. He taught lithography for decades and chaired the printmaking department at the Philadelphia College of Art. Spruance received two Guggenheim Fellowships and numerous national awards, and his work is represented in major museum collections including the Smithsonian, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and National Gallery of Art. This is a fine example with strong tonal qualities, unframed, and in very fine condition. Image measures 12.5 x 17.5, sheet is 15 x 21.5 inches. No frame.
