The art of embroidery is considered to be one of the world's oldest crafts. In the Middle Ages and the Renaissance when kings wore gold embroidered clothes, it was a male profession. Women began to embroider later and at first were deemed unsuitable to draw examples, so they were only allowed to embroider on examples that men drew for them. Knowledge of the embroidery went from mother to daughter for thousands of generations, girls began to learn to embroider at an early age, and men also embroidered.
In recent years the craft of embroidery has been returning through the art world. A large number of young artists can be found around the world using this way to express their artistic ability.
