U-BOAT MODEL MADE FROM SALVAGED GERMAN U-BOAT
A neat relic, a souvenir paperweight model of a German U-Boat UB-88 constructed from the salvaged bronze of a real German U-boat. The paperweight measures 5.5 in. long and has been loosely mounted to a blue backing. The placard beneath indicates that the miniature "was cast from salvaged bronze from UB-88 before she was sunk in target practice off San Pedro Calif. on January 3, 1921" and was presented at a farewell ball to departing submarine base commander Chauncey Shackford later that year. Slight pitting and even patina, else very good to fine.
