ALBERT KESSELRING
(1885 - 1960) Field Marshal in the Luftwaffe and at Nuremburg was tried for war crimes. Death sentence commuted due to ill health. A.L.S. in German, 1p. 8vo., Wolfsberg, July 17, 1947, a handwritten note during his imprisonment for war crimes, addressed to a Col. T.C. Hamilton. In part: 'Excuse me if I misuse your kind offer. I think I may do so however, because in doing so I am fulfilling the duty of a comrade.' This may relate to telegram privileges, as Kesselring adds the inscription '1 telegram' at the bottom-left, later underlining it. At the top-left, he adds 'P.O.W. Camp 373' - the place of his incarceration. Kesselring signs twice: once at the top-right corner, beneath his rank, and once at the letter's conclusion. Some light creases, paper clip indent, else very good.
