ANTHONY MCAULIFFE
(1898 - 1975) American Army general who held Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge, remembered for his reply to a German surrender ultimatum, 'Nuts!' Signed FDC commemorating the capture of Cologne by the American First Army, signed in blue ink. Also signed at bottom by FRANK L. TEIXEIRA, captain of Company G, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st U.S. Infantry Division. The obverse bears a March 5, 1945 cancel, and the reverse bears a March 5, 1995 cancel. Very good to fine.
