ERICH HARTMANN
(1922 - 1993) German ace, the top ace of all time, with 352 aerial kills during which he never lost a wingman. Captured and held by the Soviets for ten years. Good lot of two signed items, includes: Postwar S.P., 5 x 4 in. b/w, showing an older Hartmann with an unidentified individual wearing a 'Boesch' nametag. The verso bears an inscription in English, reading in part: 'don't send original photographs...a lot of them are going lost...I don't know where and who...' Hartmann signs twice in blue ink: once at the bottom of the face, and the other at the conclusion of the verso. One light vertical fold, else very good. WITH: Good association A.L.S. written on the back of a German envelope, 1p. oblong 4to., [n.p., n.d.,], referencing the earlier photograph, in part: 'Sorry that I cannot help you to identify this photograph. I don't know him, Gen. Galland didn't know him...I asked also a couple of former pilots but nobody could say who he is...' Hartmann signs at the conclusion. Very good.
