FRITZ FESSMANN
(1913 - 1944) German Panzer officer, recipient of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords. Fessmann was killed in action on 11 October 1944 when a Soviet shell exploded before him, throwing him back into his vehicle and killing him instantly. Rare war-date S.P., 2.5 x 3.25 in. b/w, a waist up image of Fessmann in uniform, prominently wearing his Knight's Cross, Iron Cross, First Class, and Panzer Assault Badge, signed across the chest with poor contrast. Fine condition.
