FRITZ SCHLIEPER
(1892 - 1977) German lieutenant general and Knights Cross recipient. During Operation Barbarossa, he commanded the 45th Infantry Division in one of the initial battles, the Defense of Brest Fortress. In 1942, he was transferred to Slovakia to lead German military mission at Slovakian Ministry of Defense. T.L.S. on thin airmail letterhead, 1p. 4to., Heidelberg, Mar. 25, 1963 in English. In part: "...I wrote to General Spang at Hamburg, but until now I have not yet an answer...I have not yet a chance to find military souvenirs for you; they are rare so many years after the war and the end of the Wehrmacht..." Very good.
