ANTI-SEMITIC OVERPRINTED GERMAN BANKNOTES
ANTI-SEMITIC OVERPRINTED GERMAN BANKNOTES
Lot of six scarce anti-Semitic Weimar Republic 1000 mark notes, each issued 1922 from Berlin, overprinted on the verso with antisemitic election slogans, including "The Jew took silver and gold away from us. He left this filth to us Germans", "The Jew took silver, gold and bacon...He left the 'Germans' this crap", and similarly vitriolic messages. Three notes bear prominent anti-Semitic illustrations, including one caricature of a Jewish man taken aback by a shining "Deutsche Parte" above the text: "God the righteous! A new one has come again! [referencing Hitler]" Very good. Sold with an "Eine Million Mark" propaganda banknote, showing on the reverse a memorial to "Maria Reichsmark" and her "death" on Nov. 14-15, 1923. Seven pieces. A good dealer's lot!
