SACHSENHAUSEN CAMP GUARD''S SS WEHRPASS
SACHSENHAUSEN CAMP GUARD'S SS WEHRPASS
SS "wehrpass" issued to an older German soldier obviously pressed into service to serve as a guard at the notorious Sachsenhausen concentration camp late in the war. The book was originally issued to Alois Egger, born 1903, in Ried on Sep. 18, 1940. He remained without assignment through almost the entirety of the war, no doubt due to his age. Things changed for him in late 1944 as Germany's military strength has been drawn down badly. On Aug. 18, 1944 Egger arrived at Sachsenhausen and on Sep. 20, 1944 Egger's book is stamped to show he is accepted into the SS as a "Sturmann". He is assigned to an SS-Totenkopf guard battalion three days later and would remain at the camp until Nov. 27, 1944. His fate thereafter is unknown. Very good condition.
