MAJOR GEN. CALEB VANCE HAYNES MAJOR GENERALS UNIFORM, VISOR CAP AND OVERCOAT

Important uniform grouping owned and worn by Major General CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966). Included is the general's post-war Air Force-blue wool tunic with applied silver bullion insignia throughout, including: Command Pilot Wings, shoulder stars, "U.S." lapel insignia, and four overseas service stripes. Buttons bear Air Force insignia, made by Waterbury. The jacket, fully lined within, bears label in the inside pocket: "Schwartz Tailoring" and is named to Haynes: "Maj. Gen. Haynes 10/7/49". WITH: two matching pairs of uniform trousers, four pockets with rear pockets bearing flaps, one pair with non-functioning zipper. WITH: matching visor cap with silver bullion clouds and lightning bolts applied to the visor (and evident in photographs of the general), black leather chin strap and blackened metal eagle, made by "Superior Uniform Cap Co.", along with Bancroft hat case. Overall very good. Consigned directly by a linear descendant with our letter of provenance. CALEB VANCE HAYNES (1895-1966) was a U.S. Air Force major general and one of the most important and talented military aviators and commanders of World War II. Haynes organized the Assam-Burma-China Ferry Command and evacuated Burma with the Chinese and RAF. He then went to China to organize and command the Bomber Command of the China Air Task Force under Gen. Claire Chennault. He later returned to India to organize the India Air Task Force of the 10th Air Force.
