GERMAN ARTILLERY OFFICER''S UNIFORM TUNIC

A rare example, a German Artillery Officer's uniform tunic of fine "field grey" wool, closed at the front with eight gilt pebbled metal buttons, with the interior edges behind the buttons and buttonholes also lined with red wool. The forest green wool collar is fitted with artillery officer's collar tabs, and each shoulder bears a sewn-on shoulder board of braided silver cords on red wool "waffenfarb" piping, indicating the wearer's role in the Artillery forces. The right-hand breast bears a chest eagle embroidered in silver bullion on forest green wool, while the left-hand breast bears two thread loops for mounting ribbon bars and decorations. Each breast is also fitted with a patch pocket with flap closure secured by a gilt pebbled metal button, while a horizontal slash pocket with similar closure is fitted at each hip. The tunic is lined with green silk, with striped silk lining the sleeves. The tunic shows a small moth hole at the bottom left-hand edge, with two additional small holes near the central buttons, else very good to fine.
