JAPANESE PRESENTATION FLAG, SIGNED BY JAPANESE POLITICIAN TAKEHARU YANAMI
Rare inscribed Japanese "meatball" flag to a departing Imperial soldier, 43 x 29.25 in., signed by prominent politician TAKEHARU YANAMI (1877-1947), Japanese politician of the Constitutional Society and Japan Progressive Party who served seven terms in the House of Representatives. Yanami writes boldly in black ink along the hoist end in Japanese kanji: "For Yujiro Shibuya...Pray long live your warrior luck...from Takeharu Yanami". The silk flag bears two leather reinforcements on the hoist corners, and each holds the remnants of original cord loops which have since been severed. Remarkably well-preserved, with some scant holes, a few very short tears towards the signature, and some light damp stains. Otherwise fine condition.
