The true first edition of the most renowned children book Pinocchio. Before its publication in book form in 1883 the work was printed in 26 numbers over 3 years in the Giornale per i bambini from July 7, 1881 to January 25, 1883 illustrated by Ugo Fleres. In 1882 Collodi signed a contract with the Florentine editor Paggi to publish 3,000 copies of the book in 1883. Folio (297 x 215mm). (Occasional tears including on the frontispieces of the first two volumes, some other repairs and occasional browning, first gathering of vol. III detached). First volume in editorial blue cloth decorated in black, second in quarter sheep over brown cloth and third in red cloth printed in gold (some rubbing and wear). The lot includes some documents related to the editor Felice Paggi and to Collodi. (3)
