Certificate of the Company for the 'Farmering' of Yeshiva Students, Designed by Gur Arye and Raban, with the Stamps of the President of the Company, Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook - 1930, Rare
The "Company for the Farmering of Yeshiva Students" was founded in 1929 by Rabbi Avraham Yitzchak Ha'Cohen Kook and his close associates in order "to train yeshiva students for agricultural work … and help the immigration of Jews from the diaspora who want to work the land and preserve their faith" (from an advertisement of the Company).
The Company was active for two years but eventually closed down due to difficulties.
Before us is an impressive, colorful certificate given by the company to a person who purchased stock of the Company. The certificate bears the stamps, in Hebrew and English, of the Company's president, rabbi Kook and its manager, treasurer and secretary, Rabbi Dover Epstein.
The certificate was designed and illustrated by the artists Meir Gur Arye and Ze'ev Raban of Bezalel. At the bottom of the certificate there is a colorful illustration depicting yeshiva students learning under the orchard trees and a farmer plowing his land in the background.
Condition: very Good.
