Shulchan Aruch Even Ha'Ezer, with Pitchei Tshuva Commentary – Johannesburg 1860 – First Edition – Stamp of Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Bloch
Shulchan Aruch Even Ha'Ezer, with Pitchei Tshuva commentary. First edition of Pitchei Tshuva by Rabbi Avraham Zvi Hirsch Eisenstadt, the rabbi of the Utena community. This edition was printed in his life.
The commentary 'Pitchei Tshuva' received the agreements of great rabbis: Rabbi Yosef Saul Ha'Levi Natanzon of Lviv (Lemberg) and Rabbi Ya'akov Zvi of Klenburg.
The book there 'Kuntras Ha'Shemot' (Pamphlet of Names) is printed at the end of the book. The book includes comments and additions to the names in the book 'Beit Shmuel' on Even Ha'Ezer.
On the title page, there are stamps of Rabbi Yosef Shmuel Bloch (1851-1924). He studied with several of the greatest rabbis, among them Rabbi Yosef Saul Ha'Levi Natanzon of Lviv (Lemberg) (whose agreement decorates the book before us), who mentioned Rabbi Bloch in one of his responsa books and described him as one of his best students. Rabbi Shlomo Gantzfried wrote about him: "I have found him full of God's Torah". Rabbi Shimon Sofer, rabbinical judge of Krakow, wrote about him in his youth: "Time will tell how the great tree will grow". As many rabbis of the time, he received his PhD (from Zurich University). Served as a rabbi in Randsberg , Holstein and later in Kovilin, Must, Bohemia. His last term as rabbi was in Floridsdorf near Vienna.
Rabbi Bloch was known for his struggle against the blood libels and antisemitism of the Christians and theologists against Jews and the Torah. Within this framework, he founded a periodical whose aim was to protect the Jews' political rights, fight antisemitism and encourage its readers' faith. Herzl published his first article about Zionism in this periodical.
The edition before us includes two parts:
Part A: [4] 117-272 pp.
Part B: [4] 75, 176-309, [3] pp.
Condition: Very Good. Few time stains. New cover.
