Letter dated 1880, to Rabbi Yisrael Berger, then Rabbi of Probuzna,
regarding a letter written by the Divrei Chaim of Sanz.
Rabbi Yitzchak Ahron Ettinger (1827-1891), son of Rabbi Mordechai Ze’ev of Lvov, author of Mefarshei Hayam and Magein Gibborim. Rabbi of Przemysl, and Lvov (1888) and leading halachic authority in Galicia, Nassi Eretz Yisrael – Head of the Austrian (Galicia) Kollel Rabbi Meir Baal Haness responsible for collection and distribution of funds to the poor of the Holy Land. Renowned for his Torah scholarship, modesty and fine character. Author of Shaalos U’Teshuvos Maharya Halevy – two volumes, as well as responsa published in his father’s Maamar Mordechai.
Rabbi Yisrael Berger (1855-1919), Rabbi of Probuzna (Galicia), Darna-Vatra, Piatra-Neamt and Baza in Romania, and from 1898 Rabbi of the orthodox community of Bucharest. Follower of the Rebbe of Zidatczow and son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager of Zaboltow. Author of Ateres Yaakov Veyisrael, Zechus Yisrael and numerous chassidic biographical publications.
