RABBI CHAIM OZER GRODZENSKI – TWO LETTERS SENT TO R. MENACHEM MENDEL KREMER, CHAZZAN OF THE MACHZIKEI HADASS IN LONDON, BEFORE HIS EMIGRATION TO ENGLAND.

Two interesting letters sent to Rabbi Kremer in connection with his emigration to England to take up the position of Chazan at the Machzikei Hadass, on the recommendation of Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski.

In the first letter, dated 8th Adar 1922, Rabbi Chaim Ozer informs Rabbi Kremer that he received a letter from Mr Chaikin of London and asks to be informed when he is ready to travel to London. He also asks about ‘the address of the ‘Merkaz Hatziyonim’ who have received £20 in my name towards his travel expenses, which I will authorise to be given to you’.

The second letter, dated Erev Pesach 1922 informs Rabbi Kremer that he has sent him authorisation to claim the £20 towards travel costs from the ‘Merkaz Hatzioni’ in London.

Rabbi Chaim Ozer Grodzenski (1863-1940), son of Rabbi David Shlomo – Rabbi of Iwie and son-in-law of (I) Rabbi Eliyahu Eliezer Grodzenski of Vilna (son-in-law of Rabbi Yisrael Salanter) and (II) Rabbi Meir Atlas of Shavel. Appointed Rabbi in Vilna in 1885 and gradually became recognised as the principal rabbinical leader of Lithuanian Jewry and one of the greatest Torah personalities of the pre-WWII era. Author of Achiezer.

2 letters. Different sizes. Good condition.
