Large, beautiful Ashkenazi sefer Torah. Chabad script. St. Petersburg
Large sefer Torah (35 cm). Beautiful, clear script in the Chabad tradition (the Alter Rebbe). A complete sefer Torah in this script is a very rare find!
This sefer Torah could be repaired and made kosher without great effort.
Ivory atzei chaim, with the engraved inscription ‘Donated by Aryeh Leib Garfinkel in memory of my father the Gaon Rabbi Eliahu Aharon, rabbi of Peterburg.’
Rabbi Eliahu Aharon [Halevi] Garfinkel was a rabbi and public figure.
The Admor Rashab Schneerson of Chabad was aided by Rabbi Garfinkel on several matters concerning the strengthening of religious observance and Rabbi Schneerson greatly admired him and appreciated his assistance. Dated to the 1920s.
