This painting depicts the Orlov Trotter ‘Lel’ and
the rider Pavel Chernov. In 1894, Lel (Udaloy -
Larochka) covered the distance of 3200m in 4.46
minutes and then 1600m in 2.16 minutes. Lel set
his record in the third gita by beating the American
stallion Flash.
