GERMAN SOCIAL WELFARE CROSS, 1ST CLASS
German Social Welfare Cross (Red Cross), 1st Class, by Godet, a most attractive medal in gilt bronze, 54mm width x 54mm height, with full length period neck ribbon. The medal is in fine
condition, all white and black enamel and gilding completely intact with only some wear to the very light coat of surface varnish. The ribbon shows some bleeding to the red center, very light, easily remedied. The Social Welfare decoration was a German civil award created by Adolf Hitler on May 1, 1939 for services in the social sector. The decoration was issued in three classes and was awarded for a wide variety of service to the German state. Qualifying service would have been with Winterhilfswerk, National Socialist Volk Welfare, medical and rescue work, or care of foreign and ethnic Germans.
