REINHARD HEYDRICH DECLARES MARTIAL LAW IN THE PROTECTORATE OF BOHEMIA AND MORAVIA
Rare original Third Reich printed broadside in German and Czech, 24.5 x 37 in., Prague, Sep. 28, 1941, declaring a 'civilian state of emergency' and martial law for the citizens of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, in German-occupied Czechoslovakia. The order prohibits actions that disturb public life or the economy, bans the possession of firearms and ammunition by the populace, and severely limits public gatherings and meetings. The announcement is signed at the conclusion in type by REINHARD HEYDRICH (1904-1942), who was named Deputy Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia the previous day. Heydrich's brutal measures would garner him the nickname 'the Butcher of Prague', largely leading to his assassination in 1942 by Czech commandos. Clearly vintage pinholes at the corners, suggesting its previous display. Original folds, four vertical rows of file holes extending the length of the document, some edgewear to bottom edge. Still very good condition, content largely unimpacted.
