WILLIAM MARCY 'BOSS' TWEED
(1823 - 1878) Mayor of New York and political 'boss' of Tammany Hall. His construction of the New York Court House and the graft associated with it nearly bankrupted New York and led to his ultimate jailing. Great partly-printed D.S. as President of the Board of Supervisors of the County of New York, 1p. oblong folio, New York, July 1865, a payroll document for the clerk and attendants of the Board of Supervisors. Tweed signs at bottom-right. Three original folds, else fine.
