QUOTATIONS OF CHAIRMAN MAO - CHAIRMAN MAO'S 'LITTLE RED BOOK', FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING
Very rare book, 'Mao Zhuxi Yulu' ('Quotations of Chairman Mao'), by Mao Zedong (Beijing: Central Intelligence Bureau of the Chinese People's Liberation Army), 1964, 250pp. 12mo., a first edition, first printing copy of Mao's 'Little Red Book', bound in textured red vinyl covers blind-embossed with the title and a red star, with a sepia-printed frontispiece portrait of Mao and Marshal Lin Bao's printed endorsement in black. This copy corrects a printing error that originally appeared on pages 82 and 83, which was discovered during the original print run. A rubber stamp portrait of Mao appears on the half-title. The half-title and title pages are separated from the book but present, else very good. The 'Little Red Book' was widely distributed during the Cultural Revolution, as the Communist Party in China sought to strengthen their cultural domination, and became the second most printed book in history.
