Nikolay Fedorovich Shcherbina (1821-1869) was a Russian poet. He became known in Russian literature mainly as the author of masterful anthological poems from ancient Greek life, distinguished by the purity and musicality of the language. His poems were published three times: in 1850, 1857, and the complete works in 1873. A. Gurilev's romance to the poems of Shcherbina 'After the battle' was very popular among the Russian Navy. Based on this romance, G. D. Zubarev in the 1900s wrote (according to another version - recorded from folklore) the song 'the sea is wide', which became very famous and is often referred to as folk.
