BERLIN, NAPHTALI TZVI YEHUDA.
(The Netziv, 1817-93). Autograph Letter Signed, written in Hebrew to <<Rabbi Shmuel Salant>> of Jerusalem. <<Signed Four times.>>
With: An Halachic addenda from the Netziv’s son-in-law R. Raphael Shapiro requesting advice from R. Salant.
Four pages. 4to.
Volozhin: 12th Teveth
This lengthy, multi-part letter contains: A lengthy discussion concerning the financial claims a woman has on an estate, and blessing all those who would assist in solving this problem; a Halachic debate found in the Sha’agas Aryeh; sending regard to the Rabbi’s daughter-in-law; an addenda in Yiddish from two others. The Netziv was Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin, the foremost Talmudic Academy in 19th-century Russia. He was succeeded in that position by his brilliant son-in-law, Rabbi Raphael Shapiro (1837–1921).
